(Posted by Jeanne McCann.)

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton
Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Hayes
Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III
D.C. Water General Manager George Hawkins
Adam Ortiz, Mayor of Edmonston, Md.

The report (embargoed until May 2) lays out a practical strategy for the federal government, in partnership with local governments in the Anacostia watershed, to lead an unprecedented effort to clean up one of the country’s most polluted rivers and turn it into a centerpiece for recreation and economic development throughout DC and Maryland.

Congress has already started the process by authorizing the development of a blueprint plan for restoring the Anacostia River. The federal government can now work equitably with local governments, business, and residents to clean up the river, making it a model of our nation’s commitment to a cleaner environment and greener future.
