Erik Michelsen
Mr. Michelsen is the Executive Director of the South River Federation, a watershed protection organization based in Edgewater, MD. He graduated from the University of Richmond and did graduate work in experimental psychology at Villanova University. He was previously employed as a Project Manager by Underwood and Associates, an environmental consulting firm specializing in water resource management and stream and wetland restoration throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Mr. Michelsen also has previous experience with the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center as well as working with other non-profit organizations including the Alliance for Sustainable Communities and the South Arundel Citizens for Responsible Development. He has served as a member of the County’s Special Advisory Committee, a citizens group appointed to review the General Development Plan documents.
Erik grew up on the Severn River at a time when its sub-aquatic vegetation was virtually non-existent, and the River was approaching full build-out. Having also spent time living near Spa Creek and the South River, he has seen firsthand the results of neglect and abuse on Anne Arundel County’s waterways. He lives on Deep Cove Creek in Churchton with his wife, daughter, and son.
